Cyber Security term 23: Keylogger

Keylogger is often referred to as a Keystroke logging. A keylogger is a computer program that keeps a log of your keystrokes on your keyboard. (Keylogging, also tracks all the keys you type onto the keyboard.)

The entire log is saved in a log file which is encrypted and can be shared with different receivers for different purposes. It can be used for both legal and illegal means.

It can track all the sensitive information like passwords and PIN (Personal Identification Number) in real-time and can be used for hijacking your personal accounts.

Keylogging is especially dangerous in public computers. All it takes is a hacker putting a little keylogging device into the computer, and when you plug the wire in, it is almost impossible to tell the difference if you are not looking carefully. Once you get infected with the keylogger, then it tracks all the keys that you type, like I said above. Including, the keys for your password.
