Four Different Types of Jellyfish

Today we’ll be looking at five incredible types of jellyfishes. Fun fact: Did you know that a group of jellyfish are called a smack?

1: Moon Jellyfish. Moon jellyfish are beautiful types of translucent creatures. though their home habitat is in the sea, they don’t swim very well. They also have very short tentacles, which reach out only two inches from their body. They can vary in color, from white to shades of blue and purple.

2: Box Jellyfish. Box jellyfish are highly dangerous, producing toxic venom from their tentacles. A box jellyfish’s average lifespan is one year. Anyone that survives a box jellyfish’s stings will have extensive scars for the rest of their lives.

3: Upside Down Jellyfish. The upside-down jellyfish got its name from its unique style of swimming, as their body is rested towards the ocean floor while its tentacles point upward. These jellyfishes are typically found in warm, shallow water. Such as lagoons, swamps, and shallow bays.

4: Cauliflower Jellyfish. Cauliflower jellyfishes are a small, unique species of jellyfish. They are found in the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean. These jellyfish do not swim freely like most other species, but rather they stick themselves to the sea floor, it feeds itself by stretching out and catching small prey like phytoplankton.
