You can recognize this species by looking at the side of their head, where you will see a red mark on both sides. They do have ears, although it is not visibly seen like our human ears, their ears are internal.

Size

Red-eared slider turtles can grow to be quite large, the adult males can grow to 7-9 inches in length, while the adult females grow even larger reaching the size of 10-12 inches in length.

Lifespan

These turtles are relatively known for their long lifespan, when in the wild they can live from 20-30 years. But in captivity, if they are taken well cared of, they can exceed 40 years.

The red-eared slider turtles are very popularly kept as pets. But they require special care and commitment to their long lifespans.
