All The Different Types of Biomes in Minecraft (Overworld)

The Minecraft biomes are growing, due to new updates on every version. We all have our favorite biomes, but how many biomes really are there? Today we will be taking a look at all of the biomes in the Overworld. (Note: Not listed in order by how common or rare it is.)

  1. Plains biome: The plains biome is pretty common with its rolling fields of green grass and the occasional tree or little water ponds.
Part of a plains biome.

2. Forests: There are many different types of forests, if I were to put them in order based on how rare they are, it would go; oak forest, birch forest, spruce forest, dark oak forest, acacia forest, jungle, and mangrove.

A type of forest. There are many!

3. Swamp: Sooner or later, we’ll all come across that place with trees with hanging vines, and a different colored water. In the clay patches of the swamp, there is a tactic that if you go to the middle of that clay patch, move 3 blocks west, and then you dig down until you hit diamonds. This sometimes works, although I can’t guarantee that it will always work.

A swamp–with sheeps!

4. Mushroom biome: This biome is one of the rarest ones in Minecraft! Both Bedrock and Java edition. They usually spawn as islands, but sometimes if you’re lucky, it will spawn connected to another biome!

They usually have more mushrooms though… right?

5. Stone peaks/Extreme hills/Mountain: These biomes are fairly the same. The only difference might be the height. These are pretty common. And can be made of stone, snow, and dirt/grass.

A really big mountain!

6. Desert: These biomes are rolling with sand, and every once in a while, when we stumble across a desert, we find a desert village and a desert temple nearby. It’s also a great place to collect green dye, from the not-so-occasional cactus.

Hey! Do I see a desert village in the distance?

7. Snowy tundra: these are quite nice-looking biomes. And on a scale of rarity to ten, it would mark about a 4! The snowy tundra, at night, has many mobs due to its vast plains of snow. And in addition to that, there are strays. But in the daytime, it looks quite inviting. You might also find a village there!

Is that a lava pool ahead, or are those some pumpkins?

8. Ice spike biome: this biome is ever drier on resources than the snowy tundra. (see above). Although there might be no wood, you’d never run out of ice there with those tall crystal-like ice spikes sticking out of the ground.

How pretty! Hey, look! There’s plenty of snow too in addition to ice!

9. Mesa/Badlands: It’s called the badlands in Java Edition, but the Mesa in Bedrock Edition! This is a great place to gather terracotta, and gold. This biome has the most gold out of all the biomes! The only structure you will find here, are mineshafts.

Wow! Look at all those cliffs!
